Arm Lift

Reaching your weight loss goals is a significant milestone, but for many men and women, it’s not the end of the story. Losing a substantial amount of weight can leave behind stretched, excess skin that doesn’t conform to your new figure. When this happens in the upper arms, it can create sagging contours and flaps of tissue, often referred to as “bat wings.”

Other times, sagging skin can be the result of aging or genetics. Regardless of the cause, if you’re bothered by extra skin in the arms that negatively affects your appearance, an arm lift at Chattahoochee Plastic Surgery can help you achieve the toned look you desire. This surgery will smooth and tighten the underlying tissues that determine the shape of your upper arms and remove localized pockets of fat to sculpt firmer and more defined contours.

Our experienced and board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. Naman, will work closely with you to develop a personalized treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. To get started, schedule a consultation today by clicking here or calling 706-494-7700. We look forward to meeting you and helping you achieve your body contouring goals.

What Is an Arm Lift?

An arm lift, also known as brachioplasty, is a surgical procedure designed to improve the appearance of the upper arms. It targets sagging skin and loose tissue to help you achieve toner, firmer and more contoured arms. This procedure is commonly performed to permanently eliminate the extra skin that remains after significant weight loss, but it can be used to address any sagging arm tissue that doesn’t respond to diet or exercise.

An arm lift is often combined with other body contouring procedures such as liposuction for more comprehensive results, or it can be included as part of a more extensive body lift. However, it can also be done on its own, depending on your exact needs and goals.

What Concerns Can an Arm Lift Address?

Aging and genetics play a significant role in the development of sagging skin. Losing a lot of weight can also leave you with extra skin. Regardless of the cause, an arm lift can address excess skin in the upper arms to create a more sculpted, defined appearance.

Some of the concerns that an arm lift can correct include:

  • Loose, excess and sagging skin
  • The appearance of “bat wings”
  • Lack of arm definition
  • Small pockets of stubborn fat

By addressing these concerns, an arm lift can help you achieve more toned and defined arms, restoring your confidence and allowing you to feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Benefits of an Arm Lift After Weight Loss

After losing a significant amount of weight, it’s not uncommon to be left with loose, sagging skin in various areas of the body, including the upper arms. This excess skin can lead to feelings of self-consciousness about your appearance, making it difficult to wear certain clothing styles or enjoy the results of your hard work. Fortunately, an arm lift can put the finishing touches on your weight loss by removing excess skin to help you achieve toned, contoured arms that more accurately reflect your new body size and shape.

Is an Arm Lift Right for Me?

Arm lift surgery is an effective solution for permanently eliminating sagging skin in the upper arms. However, it isn’t considered a weight loss procedure. Instead, an arm lift is designed to address excess tissue that remains even after your weight loss efforts.

Arm lift surgery is a suitable option for individuals who:

  • Have significant sagging or excess skin in the upper arms
  • Are at a stable weight and have no plans for major weight loss
  • Have realistic expectations regarding the outcome of the procedure
  • Are in good overall health with no serious underlying conditions
  • Don’t smoke or are willing to quit before and after the surgery

During your initial consultation, we will carefully analyze your concerns and listen to your goals to develop a personalized surgical plan tailored to your unique needs. We want you to feel confident about how you look, and we will always do our best to ensure that this happens.

“Dr. Naman and his staff did an excellent job. They were there from day one until the end. Dr. Naman did an excellent job walking me through the surgery and he also prayed for the surgery with my family and I. I wish I was able to give more stars because he deserves them. I am very satisfied with my results as well. Thanks again Dr. Naman 💙💙”

What to Expect During Arm Lift Surgery

Your arm lift procedure at Chattahoochee Plastic Surgery will be customized depending on your needs and desired outcome. On the day of your surgery, we will mark the treatment area to ensure a reliable and accurate outcome that addresses your exact concerns. Then an incision will be made to carefully remove sagging, excess skin and tighten the remaining tissue to sculpt more toned, contoured arms.

Typically, the incision for an arm lift is made on the inside or back of your upper arms. For patients with a large amount of extra skin, a longer incision that extends from the armpit to the elbow may be used instead to ensure more effective results. If you have extra pockets of fat, these can be removed during your arm lift with liposuction. Our surgeons will choose the best technique for achieving your goals based on your exact needs and expectations.

The entire procedure takes about one to three hours to complete, but this can vary depending on how much excess skin is being removed. It can be performed using general anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation, determined by the complexity of your surgery. Once your arm lift is complete and the anesthesia has worn off, you’ll be able to return home the same day.

Arm Lift Recovery

Immediately following your arm lift, bandages or dressings are applied to your incisions and your arms may be fitted with compression garments to reduce swelling. Bruising and soreness are also common during this time, but should subside gradually over the next few weeks. Most patients return to work and other light activities within seven to 10 days, although strenuous exercise and heavy lifting should remain limited until cleared by your surgeon.

You’ll be sent home with detailed aftercare instructions for a smooth recovery, and a follow-up appointment will be scheduled to remove your stitches and monitor your healing progress. At Chattahoochee Plastic Surgery, our goal is to ensure the best possible outcome from your procedure, so don’t hesitate to call our office should you have any questions or concerns.

Revealing Your Sculpted, Toned Arms

An arm lift can help you achieve the sculpted, toned arms you’ve always wanted. After surgery, excess skin and fat that contributed to unsightly sagging will be gone, leaving you with better arm definition and a more sculpted appearance. Your new contours will also better reflect your body shape and size, especially if you’ve recently lost weight. We hope you’ll be able to show off your arms and wear sleeveless tops or dresses with confidence.

The results of your arm lift are long-lasting, provided that you follow a healthy lifestyle. While aging and genetics can lead to future sagging and some loss of firmness, maintaining a stable weight, engaging in regular exercise and following your surgeon’s aftercare instructions can help ensure that you enjoy your new look for many years to come.

Frequently Asked Questions

What Risks Are Associated With Arm Lifts?

Arm lift surgery is generally considered safe and effective, but there are some risks and potential complications to consider. This includes bleeding, infection, unfavorable scarring, changes in sensation and poor wound healing. During your consultation, we will discuss these risks in more detail to help you make an informed decision regarding your procedure.

Are the Results of Arm Lift Surgery Permanent?

The results of your arm lift procedure are long-lasting, and the improvements can be considered relatively permanent. However, aging and lifestyle factors can affect the appearance of your arms and lead to skin sagging over time. By maintaining a stable body weight and consistent muscle mass, you can enjoy more toned arms for many years.

Will There Be Scarring After Arm Lift Surgery?

Like any surgical procedure, an arm lift will involve some amount of scarring. However, our surgeons will place your incisions in strategic locations and provide you with detailed aftercare instructions to encourage proper healing and minimize visibility. The scar length will vary depending on how much excess skin or tissue is removed to achieve your goals. Most patients find that the possibility of scarring is a worthwhile trade-off to eliminate excess, sagging skin. Over time, these scars will fade and become less noticeable.

Can I Combine My Arm Lift With Other Procedures?

Yes, it is possible to combine your arm lift with other procedures such as liposuction, a thigh lift or other body contouring surgeries. Combining procedures can help address multiple aesthetic concerns at once and achieve more comprehensive results. We can assess your needs and discuss the suitability of combining procedures during your consultation.

May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.
